Russell-- Vernon Avery St. Louis, 66, of County Rte 24, Russell, died Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Maplewood Campus in Canton. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 27th from 6-8 PM and on Thursday, April 28th from 10-11 AM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 21 Park Street, Canton. His funeral will be held Thursday morning at 11:15 AM with Lay Minister John Frary officiating. Friends are invited to a luncheon at the Dekalb Junction United Methodist Church. Vern was born June 24, 1949, in Canton, NY, a son of the late Avery & Nettie Mouthorp St. Louis. He was a 1967 graduate of Canton High School, where he played football as a Golden Bear from 1963-67. He graduated from Wanakena Ranger School in 1969. On August 3, 1974, he married Helen Brigham in Shelton, WA. The couple was married nearly 42 years. Shortly after graduating from Ranger School, Vern joined the Simpson Timber Co located in Shelton, WA and worked there from 1969-1976. He then worked as Loan Department Supervisor for Mason County Credit Union in Shelton, WA from 1976-1979. In 1979 the couple relocated to the North County and Vern was a Realtor from 1980-1998, working out of the Potsdam area. Surviving are his wife, Helen of Russell; a son, Christopher of Russell; a daughter, Amy Edie of Manhatten, KS; three sisters and a brother-in-law: Phyllis Magnus of Saranac Lake, Sharon (Peter) Ricciardi of Brentwood, TN and Linda Clark of Canton. Vern was an active member of Jaycees in Shelton, WA, holding several offices, including that of president and then serving at the state level; a Boy Scout Troop Leader and T-ball and Pee-Wee softball coach in Russell. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to auctions and sports, especially especially watching and encouraging his children. Memorial donations may be made to either the Russell Museum, 24 Pestle St., Russell, NY 13684 or to Sisters of Mercy, 100 Mansfield Avenue, Burlington, VT 05401, where Helen stayed during Vern's long hospitalization.
