Obituary of Roger Leland McBath
Roger L. McBath, 94, of Canton and formerly of Lisbon, NY died peacefully at United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, from 4 to 7 at Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton. A masonic service will be held at 6:30 pm. His funeral will be held on Nov.11, 2024, at 11 am, at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at the Madrid Cemetery.
Roger was born Nov.11, 1929 in Ogdensburg, NY. Has was a son of Leland and Mary (Woodside) McBath. He was a graduate of Lisbon High School and Canton ATC. On Oct. 1, 1946, he married Priscilla Bradley in Madrid, NY, where together they ran a small dairy farm. In addition to the farm, Roger was also employed by The St. Lawrence Seaway as an inspector. It was during this time he became a Surge milking machine dealer. Roger and his young family traversed the dairy farms all over St. Lawrence County and developed many lifelong relationships along the way. In 1964, Roger and Priscilla moved the family to Canton and purchased Robinson Farm Equipment shortly thereafter. In his later years, he was employed by SUNY Potsdam. Priscilla passed away in 1994 and Roger later married Barbara Blair of Waddington. Barbara passed in 2007.
Roger is survived by his children Virginia Engan of Manlius, NY, Stephen(Peggy)McBath of Canton, Sheryl (Stephen) Lovejoy of Stafford Va., and Thomas (Bobbi) McBath of Redwood, NY; a sister Ruth Dunn, formerly of Raymondville, NY; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by his dear friend, Joan Dixon, of Boynton Beach, Fla.
In addition to his parents and Priscilla and Barbara, he was predeceased by his brother, Hollis McBath, of Lisbon.
Roger was a member of Waddington F&AM Lodge 393 where he was also a member of Valley of Norwood where he received his 32nd degree in Syracuse, NY. He was also a member of The Stillwater Hunting Club serving two terms as president. He served on the Board of Directors for Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority and also on the advisory board for St. Lawrence National Bank.
He enjoyed hunting, time spent at the family camp on the St. Lawrence River, playing golf, wintering in Florida and his antique automobiles, especially the 1948 Chevy that he proudly displayed at area car shows and entered in parades.
