Obituary of Joseph Michael Guarino
DeKalb Junction, NY-
Joseph “Joe” Michael Guarino, 60, of DeKalb Junction went home to the Lord after a very lengthy battle with illnesses Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Carthage Center Rehabilitation and Nursing. Joe was a resident at the Carthage Center for close to two years.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 22 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home, 21 Park Street, Canton. Additional off-street parking is available behind “Luna” at 18 Park Street.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, October 23 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Bryan Stitt as celebrant at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton. Burial will follow in St. Henry’s Cemetery in DeKalb Junction.
Joe was born February 15, 1964 in Watertown, NY and was a son of the late Augustine and Idella (Gotham) Guarino. He graduated from Hugh C. Williams High School in Canton in 1983.
On July 26, 1997, he married the love of his life, Juliette “Julie” M. Soulia at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam, NY with Fr. Francis J. Coryer as celebrant. The couple was married 27 years and raised two precious children, Katelyn and Christian.
Prior to his illnesses, Joe worked as a custodian for 11 years for the Ogdensburg City School district and previously for ARC in Canton and Norwood.
Surviving is his wife Julie of DeKalb Junction, NY, a daughter, Katelyn Guarino, of Hammond, NY, a son, Christian Guarino, of DeKalb Junction, NY, two brothers Anthony Guarino, Sr. of Watertown, NY and Michael (Michele) Guarino of Honolulu HI, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and, of course, his beloved dog, Rufus.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Augustine Guarino, and a nephew, Anthony Guarino, Jr.
Joe enjoyed music, especially The Beatles with the volume cranked. Joe was always ready to crack a dad joke, make crafts, cuddle and feed his dog. He appreciated precious time spent with his family and, of course, “making the sauce”.
Memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer's Association.
