Obituary of Martha M. Billings

Canton, NY-

Martha M. Sharpe Billings, 69, of State Highway 310, Canton passed on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital while being treated for cancer.

Private services will be held with Lawrence Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Michael P. Catanzaro officiating.  Graveside services will be held in the Spring of 2025 at Madrid Cemetery.

Martha was born July 30, 1955 to the late Sterling S. and Ordetta M. (Klock) Sharpe of Madrid, NY.  She attended Madrid-Waddington Schools graduating in June 1973 and Seaway BOCES in September 1973 for Cosmetology.

Martha opened a beauty shop in Madrid for awhile before working at Britts Department Store until its closing.  She then worked at Ames Department Store for 5 years.  Martha then began a 33 year career for St. Lawrence County Real Property, starting in 1986 until her retirement as an Aide Supervisor in 2019.

On April 14, 1984 she married Terry L. Billings at the First Presbyterian Church of Canton.

Martha & Terry owned and operated a 60 acre horse farm on State Highway 310 in the Town of Canton.

She loved camping and traveling to Mt. Hope, Ohio to the horse auctions and to Disney in Florida.  She also loved crossword puzzles and reading fiction books and especially Amish stories.

In addition to her husband Terry of Canton; she is survived by her daughter Terisa A. (Sean LeValley and his son Jacob) Billings of Canton; two sisters Alice (Donald) Grant of Syracuse and Judy Sitterly of Colton; two brothers William (Melody) Sharpe of Madrid and David (Rhonda) Sharpe of Potsdam; a brother-in-law Fred Wright of Stockholm; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents she is predeceased by two sisters Roberta Wright and Synthia Carroll; and a brother-in-law Richard Sitterly.
