She was always “Mrs. Leonard” to me. I wouldn’t know where to start to recall my memories of her, they go so far back. I can only say that when I think of her I think of her smile and warmth, she always made me feel like I was part of the family. She counseled me when I needed good advice, she comforted me when I was feeling sad or unhappy and celebrated my good times; graduating from college, marriage, having my children and all the good things in life. She was always there when needed and she was the most giving person I have ever known. We had some wonderful talks on those summer nights when there was nothing to do and I would take a ride up to 79 Judson to see Marsha and her mother. The world was a much better and kinder place because of her. I really can’t think of growing up in Canton without thinking of the relationship I had with her. Marsha and Jim I know this is a huge loss, please accept my heartfelt sympathy.
Rest In Peace Mrs. Leonard, I am sure you were welcomed into the hereafter with open arms.
Love, Kathy

Sending heartfelt condolences to you, Jim & Marsha. We have not had much time together with you directly, but Dorothy was our mother's cousin (Betty Norton Smith
- Beatrice Todd Norton's daughter)- so we had the pleasure of being with Dorothy when they got together while we were growing up in Potsdam. Our parents' time at Partridge Knoll also overlapped and I remember how welcoming Dorothy was ... she always invited us in and was such a warm & gracious host. Truly a lovely lady! I (Robilee) had planned to visit Dorothy today (we are in the area for my father's funeral) I am sorry that I return to Vermont tomorrow; but Greg plans to attend either the visiting hours or the funeral to pay our respects. Hoping you can take comfort knowing that you did so much for your mother and that she knew she was loved and appreciated. In March she wrote to me and said some kind words about the care we provided to Dad, then she wrote: "I am very happy here - & very comfortable. They (meaning you, Jim & Marsha), too, are especially good to me."

Dot Leonard epitomized the gracious, caring, generous women of Canton that so impressed me in my growing up years and continued into my adulthood when I would see her while visiting family in Canton. What a lady!! Her smile and love for people made you feel so special! What a gift she was to all who had the privilege of being in her presence. My condolences to her family , especially to Marsha and Jimmy. You two were blessed to have her for so long. Take comfort in the many memories you have made with her over the years. She will be missed by many.
