Obituary of Dorothy G. Leonard

Canton Native-

Dorothy G. Leonard, 98, formerly of Judson Street, Canton died Friday, May 18, 2018, at Maplewood Campus in Canton.  She was the wife of the late, Walter J. Leonard.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 24^th from 6-8 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton.  Her memorial service will be held on Friday, May 25^th at 10:30 AM at Canton United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael H. Terrell and Associate Pastor Donna Doig co-officiating.  Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Canton.

Dorothy was born July 23, 1919, in Canton, NY, a daughter of the late Aubrey W. & Floy A. Gilson Todd.  She was 1938 graduate of Canton High School and attended Canton A.T.I.

On July 31, 1943, she married Walter J. Leonard in Blythe, Arkansas.  While living in Arkansas, she worked as a Dental Assistant and upon moving back to Canton she worked for Dr. Powell, D.D.S. in Canton and later at St. Lawrence University in the registrars office.

Surviving are her daughter Marsha Fitzsimmons of Canton; her son W. James Leonard, II of Canton; four grandchildren, Ryan (Meredith) Fitzsimmons, Sarah (Greg) Cattano, Gena (Fred) Johnson, Riley Leonard and two step-grandchildren Craig and Todd Fitzsimmons; five great-grandchildren, Nora and Aiden Fitzsimmons, Josie and Stella Cattano and Wyatt Johnson.

In the 1950’s she was a member of a bowling league at the Canton Club.  She was a board member of the EJ Noble Hospital Guild and enjoyed playing Bridge.  Dorothy will be remembered for her devotion to her family and grandchildren.
