Obituary of Chester John Olmstead

Chester J. "JACK" Olmstead, 63, of Post Road, died at his home on Sunday, July 13, 2014. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 15th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton. Miltary honors will be performed by VFW Post 1231 at the conclusion of the calling hours. Jack was born June 14, 1951 in Ogdensburg, a son of Helen (Whittman) Olmstead of South Colton and the late Chester J. Olmstead. He attended Colton-Pierrepont School and served in the US Army during Vietnam (1970-71) and later in the US Navy. Prior to retirement he worked for JE Sheehan Construction, Potsdam through the Laborer's Union for 32 years. He was a member of the AMVETS in Colton and VFW #1231 in Canton. Jack enjoyed socializing with friends, hunting, fishing and will be fondly remembered as a "story-teller". In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Charles and Chester; two daughters, Jessica Shorette and Jacqueline Olmstead; a step-son, Tom; ten brothers and sisters: Sharon Gushlaw, Norma (Dave) Taylor, Patricia Schwartfigure, Richard (Candice) Olmstead, Helen (Dale) Fountain, Cheryl (Mike) Opal, Thomas (Debbie) Olmstead, Larry (Terry) Olmstead, Jerry (Laurie) Olmstead and Kathy (Kevin) Parkinson; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
