CANTON—
David Earl Wight, 53, of State Hwy 68, died Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a brief illness.
A Celebration of His Life will be held at the convenience of the family. Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions in David's Memory are suggested to Canton-Potsdam Hospital and/ or the Cancer Treatment Center, 50 Leroy Street, Potsdam, NY 13676.
Born March 31, 1962, in Canton, NY, he was the son of Earl N. & Lois (Gray) Wight of Canton. He graduated Canton High School in 1981 and later went to Tractor Trailer Driver Training in Liverpool, NY. It was shortly after, that he started his 28 year career with United Parcel Service (UPS) in Potsdam.
On October 6, 1990, he married Beth Ruitberg in the Crary Mills Church with Rev. Jack Wells as celebrant.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Beth of Canton; his daughter, Bridget Wight of Canton; two sisters, Linda Curry and husband David of Canton and Leslie Weisenfeld and husband Rance Bell of Clemmons, NC; his mother-in-law, Jill Ruitberg of Punta Gorda, FL; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Yost of Halifax, Mass and Julie Atwood of Barre, VT; four nieces and nephews, Cassandra Thompson of Louisville, NC, Terra O'Neill of Canton, Stephanie D'Abbraci of Keuka Park, NY and John Curry of Tampa, FL. He will also be fondly remembered by numerous friends & co-workers who loved him.
David was a member of Rainbow Rod & Gun Club and the Teamsters Union. He loved the outdoors often spending time deer hunting, fishing, including ice-fishing, boating on Crary Reservoir, camping at Blake, snowmobiling in the Adirondacks and cutting wood and spending time in his "Maple Grove".
