CANTON - George L. (Buster) Robinson, 91, of 60 Court St., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 1, 2015 at Maplewood (UHCN), Canton. George was born June 20, 1923 in Canton, NY, son of George E. and Ruth Hunter Robinson. He attended Canton Central School and Ogdensburg Business School. He worked at Alcoa as an electrical assistant and was a veteran of the US Navy (1944-46), serving in WWII. Upon return from his navy service, he worked briefly again for Alcoa and then started his own fuel oil company, which he owned and operated until he sold the business to the Augsbury Corporation. He began working at Canton Central School in 1972 and served many roles as bus driver, head of security and in the bus garage until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of the Canton Fire Department, serving as Chief for a time; worked as a special deputy for the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office; and, worked at Lawrence Funeral Home for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Lindley Robinson, married August 31, 1957 at their home on Court Street; two sons from a former marriage, George T. (Marie) Robinson, Tupper Lake, NY, and James S. (Linda) Robinson, Baldwinsville, NY; and, two daughters, Robin A. (Michael) Kirkpatrick, Arnold, MD, and Kimberly M. Hissong, Canton, NY; a niece, Barbara (Joan Rabin) Slater, Cranberry Lake, NY/Fort Myers, FL; two granddaughters, Marci and Brittany; a grandson, Jack; and a great-granddaughter, Callie. He was predeceased by his father, mother and sister, Eleanor Slater. George was an avid hunter, fisherman and boater and enjoyed camping every summer with his family at Higley Flow. He is remembered by generations of Canton Central Golden Bears for his tireless service to the school and his love of children. He was a proud family man who was the happiest when surrounded by his family at their home on Court Street, where he lived all his life. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 5-7 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 21 Park Street, Canton. A Private Family Memorial Service will follow with Assoc. Pastor Donna Doig officiating. Interment will be held privately in Evergreen Cemetery, Canton. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or to the charity of one's choice.
