Obituary of Norma L. Nash

Canton- Norma (Schafer) Nash 97 of Canton formerly of North Ft. Meyers Fla., Liverpool and Oswego passed away at the home of her daughter Deborah Martin in Canton on Friday Jan. 17, 2020. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 21 from 4-6 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home, 21 Park Street, Canton with a brief prayer service to follow. She was born in Amsterdam, N.Y. on February 19, 1922. She graduated from Amsterdam High School and went on to graduate from Oswego State Teachers College. Norma married Harold “Hal” Nash who predeceased her in 1990. She started her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in Wellsville, NY. She retired from Canton Central School where she taught 6th grade for many years. She is survived by two children, Deborah (Dan) Martin and Harold (Sheryl) Nash Jr., four grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was an avid golfer, bridge player achieving Life Master status in 2004 and former teacher in Fulton, Liverpool, Syracuse, Hermon and Canton school districts.
