The sudden, unexpected loss of Joel reminds us of how precious life is and how one single person can effect the lives of so many others.
Over 30 years ago, a teenage boy approached us looking for a job. We had no idea what an impact that young man would have on our family.
Over the years, we had the privilege to be a part of some of his most significant events of his life, such as his marriage to Tammy and the birth of Abby, his pride and joy.
We got to know their amazing families; his parents (Dick and Donna), her parents (Dennis and Linda), his brothers (Aaron and Todd), and his uncles who were more like brothers (Kirk, Scott, Brian, and Bruce) and their families. Having been part of many of their family gatherings, we realize what a strong, fun filled, loving family they are.
Joel had an immense circle of friends; lifelong friends, biker friends, hunting/fishing friends, golfing friends, Am Vets friends, camping friends, travel friends, business trade friends, etc… too many to summarize briefly. Through Joel, were able to meet so many of them and create friendships of our own.
Another group of friends would be his coworkers, his work friends who you might say were more of an extended family. This group of men work so well together, always displaying respect and support of one another. Joel came to us with no previous carpentry skills, but quickly developed the ability to be considered a master craftsman. His loss leaves a large void in the hearts of our team.
So many of our clients invited Joel into their homes to complete their projects and “leave his mark” of master craftsmanship. With his people skills partnered with his skill, he created many special friendships that never went unnoticed or unappreciated.
At times like these, many may feel defeated, like they cannot possibly move forward without Joel’s presence. We all know Joel well enough to know that he would not want us feeling like that. He would want us to support one another and somehow find the strength to move on. Though he is not physically present, he is very much alive in our memories and hearts.
As we personally reflect on our friendship with Joel, we can’t help but feel so fortunate for being a part of his life… and to think it all started with a teenage boy looking for a job.
We send our condolences to all that are experiencing this tremendous loss.

Will so much miss this wonderful man. This photo was taken at our camp in Raquette Lake after a long day of work by Joel and Dan and a long day of travel and medical appointments for us. We returned to camp that night to find the ramp completed and stained, the ramp that made it possible for Betsy to stay at camp. And on top of that these 2 guys cooked up a steak dinner for all of us.

My husband Steve and I are so very sad to learn of Joel's death. We knew him as that cheerful, smart man who came to our house and office to fix things or install things -- didn't know him outside of that role, but had many long conversations with Joel and considered him a friend. One thing I know for absolute certain from those many talks is that he loved "his girls" to the moon and back. Abby, he was SO proud of you! I remember mentioning to your dad that I had seen your picture (with your parents, I think?) on northcountrynow.com when you were getting an award at school, and he then spent many minutes telling me how special you were and how lucky he was to be your dad. I had a dad like that, too, and he's been gone a long time... but he's still with me every single day. Joel would want you to feel that way about him, too, and I bet you'll be able to feel his presence, <3 We were "just customers", but we loved him and we will miss him. He was a lovely soul.
