Obituary of Joel Harrison Stiles

Crary Mills, NY-

Joel “Joely” Harrison Stiles, 49, of Post Road died unexpectedly in his sleep on Monday, October 23, 2023 at his home.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 29 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Potsdam AMVETS Post # 282 on US-11, where he was a member.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to his daughter to assist in her schooling.  Abigail Stiles, 120 Post Road, Canton, NY 13617.

Born October 10, 1974 in Potsdam, NY he was a son of Richard and Donna (Todd) Stiles and graduated from Canton Central School in 1993.

Joel worked as general contractor for Everett and Jackie Scanlon, Scanlon’s Home Care for thirty plus years.

On September 25, 1999 he married Tammy L. Briggs in the Grace Episcopal Church in Canton.  The couple were married 24 years.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife Tammy; his beloved daughter Abigail “Abby” and her boyfriend Joe Mastro; two brothers Aaron and Todd Stiles; and four nephews.  He will also be remembered and missed by his in-laws Dennis and Linda Briggs as well as his dog and cats and numerous friends.

Joel was a big man who enjoyed the outdoors and sports.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, barbequing with his smoker, making maple syrup, skiing, playing golf, camping and watching football and golf on TV.  He also loved trips to Florida with Tammy and riding his Harley.  He will also be missed by his neighbor’s donkeys- “Willie & Waylon” who he fed nearly everyday.

He truly loved Tammy and Abby.  Abby was the apple of his eyes! And he would often say, “I love my girls, cuz they’re all I have.”
