Richard E. “Dick” Mace, 73, of Old DeKalb Road, Canton, died peacefully, with his family by his side, on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Claxton Hepburn Hospital. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 15, from 4:00 pm. until 7:00 pm. at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 21 Park St., Canton. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 16, at First Presbyterian Church, Canton, at 11:00 am. Richard was born February 28, 1943, in Canton, NY. He was the son of the late Reginald G. and Ethel I (Perkins) Mace. He graduated from Canton Central School in 1961 where he enjoyed playing football, hockey, baseball, golf and intramural bowling. He graduated from Canton A.T.I. in 1964 with an Associates Degree in Marketing. On July 11, 1964, he married Patricia A. Brown at the Canton United Methodist Church with Calvin F. Zimmer as celebrant. They were married almost 52 years. Richard was a route salesman for National Biscuit , Wonder Bread and Bouyea Baking Companies. After retirement from the bread business, he was employed by R.B. Lawrence Ambulance Service. Most recently, he was a driver for St. Lawrence University transporting students, faculty and the President of the university. He enjoyed the long conversations with all of his passengers. He was a past member of the Canton Volunteer Fire Department. During that time he heard about an Angel Tree project in Canada and initiated the Angel Tree program (now known as the Giving Tree) here in Canton in conjunction with the Church and Community Program, with the help of other members of the fire department. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed time in his work shop and the man cave he built. Dick and Pat spent a lot of time on their back patio, talking and watching nature change with the seasons. He was also a Corvette enthusiast. He is survived by his wife, Pat, of Canton and by his sons, David Mace of Penfield, NY; Scott Mace (Diane), of Rock Hill, NY; and Christopher Mace (Tori) of Canton, NY. He is survived by grandchildren, Destiny, Mikayla, Joshua, Abigail, Benjamin, Anthony, and Brianna. He is also survived by a brother, Raymond Mace of AZ, cousins nieces and nephews.
