Obituary of William A. Webb
Canton, NY-
William A. “Bill” Webb, 90, of Pine Street, Canton passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton. His funeral will follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Michael P. Catanzaro officiating. Burial will be held privately for the family at Campbell Cemetery in Flackville, NY.
Memorial contributions are suggested to First Presbyterian Church of Canton or to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
Bill was born July 23, 1933 in Fernwood, NY and was a son of the late Herbert C. and S. Marguereta (Bradshaw) Webb. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1951 and in 1953 he graduated from Canton A.T.I. with an Associates Degree.
In 1953 he enlisted in the US Navy where he served as a NavCad and Airman in the Aviation Branch VP-45 Squadron and was stationed in Panama during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and was a reservist until 1961.
On June 15, 1957 he married his loving wife Lorna M. Steen in the Heuvelton Presbyterian Church. The couple was happily married 62 years with Lorna passing in May of 2020.
Bill was employed with St. Lawrence National Bank / Community Bank, N.A. in Canton, NY retiring as Vice President/ Auditor on July 1, 1995. After retirement he worked with the bank as a Lot Planner for area car dealerships and as a funeral assistant for Lawrence Funeral Home.
Surviving are his four daughters Paula (Wilfried) Eschmann, Pamela (Jim) Bethell, Janice (Roy) Acklin and Ruth (Rob) Leslie; two brothers John W. (Betty) Webb and Richard J. (Sandy) Webb; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Lorna, he was predeceased by a brother Herbert J. Webb.
Bill was an active member of his community. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Canton where he served as Treasurer, Trustee and as an Elder. He was also a member of the Jaycees; served on the board for United Helpers; 5 Gallon Club Member of the American Red Cross; in the 60’s he was a Treasurer for Canton High School; United Way Member; a member of Colton-Pierrepont Senior Citizens Club; and the Out-Of-Fit Hunting Club.
Bill was also a member of St. Lawrence Lodge F & AM # 111, Canton where he served as Master in 1976 and earned a 50 year Certificate. Bill and Lorna were also active in the Meals on Wheels program, delivering meals in the Colton area for 10 years.
